How it all Started

It started with a laser…

Maxie Marks Engraving - Martin Family

I used to paint, draw, crochet blankets and amigurumi (stuffed toys), never for myself, always for others. Inspiration becomes difficult unless I am thinking of the person receiving the gift, who they are, what do they like, what they would really appreciate.

My husband, one day gifted me an xTool laser. I was so happy, and I thought “OMG, imagine all these gifts I can make!" I have a certain affinity to wood so the xtool works perfect but he is partial to metal so to cover all our bases, he eventually gifted me a fiber laser. He has always been supportive and loving and to show my appreciation to him, here I am trying to make something out of these gifts

Chihuahua Maxie and Anita - Maxie Marks Engraving

The name

Maxie

I will always be grateful for Him who lent her to me for she is the only reason I am still alive.

The name Maxie Marks Engraving was inspired by my little chihuahua named Maxie. (Maxie is to the left. The right one is her sister Anita. Both their names are in the parent company's name [Maxie and Anita's Craft Store])

It was a long battle, since I was a child. Emotional invalidation, social isolation, and people attempting suicide were so common that I thought of them as normal. Music helped me to forget, but there is only so much one can do with an art that lends itself susceptible to criticism and judgement. Distress tolerance skills were not something that came easily.

Maxie came first and she came in the later years of these turbulent times, when I was at the peak of my battle against borderline personality disorder. She is the sole reason I am alive. She was the only reason I kept turning away to what I long learnt as normal, trying to commit suicide. She kept the thoughts at bay and gave me a reason to even try to wake up the next day. I sincerely believe if I did not have her, one of my suicide attempts would have taken, then I would have not met my husband and be here where I am, trying to make a future for our family. I made it a point to honor her in any business ventures that I try.

The “Marks” portion is a play on both her silly way of peering (like when a dog pees to mark their territory) and “marking” as in laser marking.

The word engraving is just there to make it clear to customers what we do.
